LICI Stock Summary · August 2026
Management presented a quarter of strong premium growth and sharper new-business profitability, even as market share and some operating ratios moved less favorably. Total premium income rose 6.75% year on year to Rs 127,250 crore in Q1 FY27, while net VNB increased 61% and VNB margin expanded to 22.9%, helped by a richer mix toward individual non-par savings, protection and higher-ticket products. Management said the business continued to rely primarily on its agency franchise, while also broadening digital engagement through Ananda and newly launched mobile apps, and it highlighted healthier balance-sheet capacity with solvency at 2.42 and AUM up 4.1% to 59.39 lakh crore. At the same time, the call acknowledged a decline in overall first-year premium market share to 60.10% and a modest expense-ratio increase to 10.63% from the GST-related loss of input tax credit, alongside mixed persistency trends. Near term, management said margins should continue to improve over the next few quarters, the GST expense impact is largely already embedded, and the bancassurance shortfall from the quarter is expected to be recovered in coming quarters.
