Nifty scale above 24,500; Oil & gas shares in demand

The headline equity indices traded with substantial gains in the morning trade, supported by easing global trade tensions and sustained foreign inflows and a continued rise in India's foreign exchange reserves, which climbed for the eighth straight week. Nifty climbed above the 24,500 level. Oil & gas shares extended gains for the second consecutive trading session. At 10:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rallied 460.03 points or 0.57% to 80,962.02. The Nifty 50 index rose 167.70 points or 0.69% to 24,514.40. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 1.08% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index added 0.88%. The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,383 shares rose and 1,163 shares fell. A total of 223 shares were unchanged. The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, added 1.15% to 18.47. Economy: India's foreign exchange reserves (Forex) rose by USD 1.983 billion to USD 688.129 billion in the week that ended on April 25, extending gains for the eighth straight week, official data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) this week showed. The RBI data shows that foreign currency assets (FCAs) witnessed an uptick of USD 2.168 billion reaching at USD 580.663 billion. In the reported week, the gold reserves with the RBI declined by USD 207 million, standing at USD 84.365 billion. The Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), which are kept with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), witnessed a rise reaching USD 18.589 billion, up USD 21 million in the reporting week. India's foreign exchange reserves rose USD 8.310 billion to USD 686.145 billion in the week that ended on April 18. Earnings Today: Mahindra & Mahindra (up 1.35%), Indian Hotels Company (up 1.56%), Coforge (up 1.39%), Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Company (up 1.34%), DCM Shriram (up 2%), Computer Age Management Services (down 0.76%), CCL Products (up 0.33%), Capri Global Capital (up 3.27%), Cigniti Technologies (up 0.94%), Ethos (up 1.08%), Jammu & Kashmir Bank (up 1.39%), Unicommerce Esolutions (up 3.05%) and Zee Media Corporation (down 0.50%) will declare their result later today. Buzzing Index: The Nifty Oil & Gas index jumped 1.31% to 11,408.80. The index advanced 2.05% in the two consecutive trading sessions. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (up 4.97%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (up 4.21%), Indraprastha Gas (up 3.95%), Adani Total Gas (up 3.81%), Indian Oil Corporation (up 3.63%), Castrol India (up 2.27%), Aegis Logistics (up 2.15%), Gujarat Gas (up 1.97%), Gujarat State Petronet (up 1.60%) and Mahanagar Gas (up 1.58%) advanced. On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corpn (down 1.9%), Oil India (down 1.41%) and GAIL (India) (down 1%) edged lower. Stocks in Spotlight: Avenue Supermarts (Dmart) declined 2.66% after the company's consolidated net profit fell 2.19% to Rs 550.90 crore in Q4 FY25 as compared with Rs 563.25 crore in Q4 FY24. Revenue from operations jumped 16.86% YoY to Rs 14,871.86 crore during the quarter ended 31st March 2025. Marico rallied 3.70% after the company reported a 7.86% jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 343 crore in Q4 FY25 as compared with Rs 318 crore in Q4 FY24. Revenue from operations increased 19.84% to Rs 2,730 crore during the quarter as compared with Rs 2,278 crore in Q4 FY24. Avenue Supermarts drops after Q4 PAT slips 2% YoY to Rs 551 cr

Revenue from operations jumped 16.86% YoY to Rs 14,871.86 crore during the quarter ended 31st March 2025. Profit before tax (PBT) slipped 5.62% to Rs 720.30 crore in Q4 FY25 as against Rs 763.20 crore in Q4 FY24. Earnings before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) in Q4FY25 stood at Rs 955 crore, registering the de-growth of 1.17%, as compared to Rs 944 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter of last year. EBITDA margin stood at 6.4% in Q4FY25 as compared to 7.4% in Q4FY24. The company added 28 stores in Q4 FY25. D-Mart follows Everyday low cost - Everyday low price (EDLC-EDLP) strategy which aims at procuring goods at competitive prices, using operational and distribution efficiency and thereby delivering value for money to customers by selling at competitive prices On full year basis, the company's consolidated net profit climbed 6.78% to Rs 2,708.02 crore in FY25 as against 2,536.17 crore in FY24. Revenue from operations jumped 16.87% to Rs 59,358.05 in FY25 as compared with Rs 50,788.83 crore in FY24. It added 50 stores in FY25. On Standalone basis, the company's net profit rose 2.57% to Rs 619.71 crore in Q4 FY25 as compared with Rs 604.20 crore in Q4 FY24. Revenue from operations increased 16.69% YoY to Rs 14,462.39 crore in Q4 FY25. Neville Noronha, CEO (II) surge in wages of entry level positions due to demand / supply mismatch of skilled workforce; and (III) continued investments in improving our service levels with respect to faster turnarounds on availability, checkouts and future store openings. We also had a larger number of store openings during this quarter. Overall business continues to be resilient in metro towns. We are also having relatively better like-for-like growth in metro towns which have significantly lesser DMart Stores density. While overall gross margins in the matured metro towns will remain soft for a certain period of time. Our DMart Ready business is growing extremely well in key metro towns. We have shut down several pick-up points (PUPs), however, our Home Delivery channel is growing strongly and has more than compensated for any loss of sale of the PUPs. This year was a year of reset and review. However, it is also giving us confidence that our model is scalable and relevant to the Metro City shopper who appreciates DMart Ready for its value positioning and assortment profile.' AEL was incorporated on 11th November, 2014 and is engaged in the business of online and multi-channel grocery retail under the brand name 'DMart Ready'. Its turnover was Rs 2,899.20 crore in FY24. AEL will utilize these funds towards its operational, working capital and capex requirements. The company has subscribed 4,67,78,000 shares of AEL at face value of Rs 10 each at Rs 37.41 per share, for an amount aggregating to Rs 174.99 crore. The said shares were issued by AEL on preferential basis to the company. In AEL, the promoter's shareholding prior to the acquisition was at 99.71% and post transaction, the shareholding stood at 99.74% The said investment is a related party transaction as Manjri Chandak, director and promoter group of the company, is also a director in AEL. Avenue Supermarts Q3 net profit jumps 5% YoY to Rs 724 cr; appoints Anshul Asawa as MD & CEO

Profit before tax (PBT) rose 4.9% YoY to Rs 995.05 crore during the quarter. EBITDA stood at Rs 1,217 crore during the period as compared with Rs 1,120 crore posted in corresponding quarter last year. EBITDA margin stood at 7.6% in Q3 FY25 as against 8.3% in Q3 FY24. D-Mart follows Everyday low cost - Everyday low price (EDLC-EDLP) strategy which aims at procuring goods at competitive prices, using operational and distribution efficiency and thereby delivering value for money to customers by selling at competitive prices. Standalone basis, the company's net profit rose 6.5% to Rs 784.65 crore on 17.5% increase in revenue from operations to Rs 15,565.23 crore in Q3 FY25 over Q3 FY24. During the quarter 10 stores were added. Neville Noronha, CEO & managing director, Avenue Supermarts, said: 'Our revenue for Q3 FY 2025 grew by 17.5% over the previous year. The Q3 FY 2025 same store revenue growth for 2 years and older stores was at 8.3%. We continue to see increased intensity in discounting in the FMCG category and the consequent impact to high turnover per square feet stores in metro towns. However, this quarter the impact has relatively reduced versus the previous quarter (Q2 FY 2025). We stay committed to being the most preferred value retailer to customers in the vicinity of a DMart store or a Fulfilment centre of DMart Ready. Meanwhile, the company announced that Neville Noronha will not be offering his candidature for renewal of his role as the managing director and CEO at the conclusion of his current term in January 2026 - a year from now. The board of directors honours his decision and expresses profound gratitude for his extraordinary contribution to the company. The board has appointed Anshul Asawa as the CEO designate, effective 15 March 2025. Anshul Asawa is expected to take over as the MD and CEO on the 1st of February, 2026, upon the completion of Neville's term in that position Anshul Asawa, an IIT Roorkee and IIM Lucknow alumnus, will be joining DMart after a 30-year long stint at Unilever where he had leadership roles overseeing the growth of product categories and developing impactful functions in India, Asia, and Europe. He currently serves as Country Head of Unilever in Thailand and General Manager for the Home Care business unit in Greater Asia. Further, the company 's board has also approved the appointment of Hitesh Shah, vice president-category (FMCG) as Head-Pharma Business, Rajeev Chandrasekharan, General Manager - DC as Head-Centre of Excellence to oversee the process audit function Furthermore, the company's board approved the change in role of Ashutosh Dhar as Head Loss Prevention. He shall not be considered as senior management personnel due to change in his reporting structure. Mumbai-based Avenue Supermarts owns and runs the popular D-Mart stores, a national supermarket chain offering a variety of home and personal products.
