What Is a Demat Holding Statement?

It’s an official, date-stamped record of every security in your demat account. If you’re new to the term, see our full breakdown of what a demat holding statement is and why it matters — here, we’ll focus on exactly how to pull it on ICICI Direct.

Why You Need Your ICICI Direct Holding Report

Tracking your portfolio

ICICI Direct’s Stocks page under Portfolio gives you a live, sector-wise grouped view of your holdings — quantity, average cost price, CMP, value at cost vs. value at CMP, and both realized and unrealized P&L in one table. The Download option lets you export exactly that view as a Summary report, so you get a portfolio snapshot with performance numbers built in, not just a bare holdings list.

Filing your ITR / calculating capital gains

Alongside the Summary export, ICICI Direct also lets you download an All Transaction report (Excel or CSV) from the same Download menu — useful when you need transaction-level detail, not just a point-in-time snapshot, for computing capital gains. Note that this Stocks/Portfolio download is separate from ICICI Direct’s dedicated Demat Holding/Dividend report, which is a distinct option on the same page if you specifically need the depository-style holding statement rather than the portfolio view.

How to Download Your Holding Report on ICICI Direct

FAQs

1. What’s the difference between the Portfolio → Stocks download and ICICI Direct’s Demat Holding/Dividend report?

The Stocks page export gives you your live portfolio view with P&L — quantity, cost, CMP, and gains. Demat Holding/Dividend, a separate link on the same page, gives you the depository-style holding statement instead.

2. Should I download Summary or All Transactions?

Summary gives you a current snapshot of your holdings and P&L. All Transactions gives you the underlying buy/sell activity behind those holdings — download that one if you need transaction-level detail for tax computation.

3. Can I download my ICICI Direct report as CSV instead of Excel?

Yes — both Summary and All Transaction are available in Excel or CSV from the same Download dropdown.

4. Can I group my ICICI Direct portfolio report by something other than sector?

Yes, the Grouping option on the Stocks page isn’t limited to Sector Wise — you can change it before downloading if you want a different breakdown.

5. Can I use this report to file my ITR or calculate capital gains?

The All Transaction export is the more useful one for that, since it gives transaction-level data rather than just a point-in-time snapshot — pair it with the Realized P&L column already shown on the Stocks page.

6. Do I need to check External Holdings separately?

If you hold securities outside your ICICI Direct demat account, use the “View External Holdings” link on the Stocks page — it’s separate from the download options covered here.
