Net sales declined by 25.6% YoY to Rs 12925.36 crore during the period under review. Total operating expenditure fell by 24% to Rs 12863.45 crore in Q3 FY25 over Q3 FY24. The impact of lower raw material costs (down 20% YoY) was offset by higher cost of finished good purchases (up 50.8% YoY) and higher other expenses (up 17.1% YoY). Interest payments for the third quaeter added up to Rs 79.16 crore, up 58.4% YoY. Profit before tax in Q3 FY25 stood at Rs 14.12 crore, down by 97.1% from Rs 481.05 crore in Q3 FY24. For 9M FY25, Chennai Petro has reported a net loss of Rs 276.43 crore and net sales of Rs 42,106.88 crore. The company had recorded a net profit of Rs 2,098.87 crore and net sales of Rs 48,665.26 crore in the same period last year. Average gross refining margin (GRM) for the period from April ' December 2024 was $3.40 per barrel, which is significantly lower as compared with the GRM of $8.98 per barrel April ' December 2023. In an exchange filing, it has said notice has been issued seeking a reply as to why environmental compensation of Rs 73.68 crore as socioeconomic damage cost and environment damage cost caused due to oil spill shall not be levied. The company said that there was no impact on the operation and other activities. It was examining the notice legally, and appropriate action will be initiated. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued notice to the Government of Tamil Nadu, and TNPCB also made CPCL a party. The company, along with the state government, has taken adequate measures for cleaning and rehabilitation of the affected areas. The matter is pending for further hearing. However, revenue from operations (excluding excise duty) fell 26.9% to Rs 12,086.54 crore in the quarter ended 30 September 2024 from Rs 16,544.56 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter previous year. The firm reported a pre-tax loss of Rs 857.37 crore in the second quarter of FY25 compared with profit before tax of Rs 1,587.86 crore posted in same period a year ago. Total expenses declined 16.94% YoY to Rs 15,304.90 crore during the quarter. Cost of raw materials consumed stood at Rs 11,638.58 crore (down 24.41% YoY) while employee benefits expense was at Rs 115.88 crore (down 14.64% YoY). During the period under review, crude throughput stood at 2.098 MMT, registering de-growth of 31.19% from 3.049 MMT reported in the same period last year. On half yearly basis, the company reported net loss of Rs 286.89 crore in H1 FY25 as against net profit of Rs 1,738.88 crore in H1 FY24. Net sales declined 6.7% YoY to Rs 29,181.52 crore in the half year ended 30 September 2024.
