It covers up to two girl children born on or after 15 August 1997. Currently, eligible girl children under the scheme are given Rs 500 as a post-birth grant and annual scholarships as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Class<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Annual scholarship<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>I to III<\/td><td>Rs 300 for each class<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>IV<\/td><td>Rs 500<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>V<\/td><td>Rs 600<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>VI to VII<\/td><td>Rs 700 for each class<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>VIII<\/td><td>Rs 800<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>IX to X<\/td><td>Rs 1,000<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Eligibility-criteria-of-Balika-Samridhi-Yojana\"><\/span><strong>Eligibility criteria of Balika Samridhi Yojana<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>This scheme is only available for girl children born to families under the Below Poverty Line category on or after 15 August 1997.<\/li><li>Rural families claiming the scheme should belong to the BPL category per the criteria set under Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana.<\/li><li>In urban areas, families living in slums, regardless of their recognition, those working as rag-pickers, vegetables and fruit sellers, payment vendors and so on are covered.<\/li><li>The scheme applies to only two girl children from every family.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How-to-apply-for-Balika-Samridhi-Yojana\"><\/span><strong>How to apply for Balika Samridhi Yojana?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The scheme is implemented through the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) in rural areas and the Health Department in urban areas. Eligible families must follow the below steps to apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Obtain the application form online from the Women and Child Development website. Alternatively, the form is also available offline with Anganwadi Workers and the Health Functionaries in rural areas.<\/li><li>Duly fill out the form with all the details.<\/li><li>Submit the form where you obtained it from.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Withdrawal-of-funds-and-other-guidelines\"><\/span><strong>Withdrawal of funds and other guidelines<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>The grant mentioned above is deposited in an interest-bearing account opened in the name of the girl child and an officer allotted by the State Government\/Union Territory. The account is opened in the nearest post office or bank.<\/li><li>The account will mature when the girl child attains the age of 18 yrs.<\/li><li>No premature withdrawal from the account is allowed.<\/li><li>On attaining 18 yrs of age, the girl child can withdraw the funds by producing a certificate stating that she is unmarried. She can obtain this from the Gram Panchayat\/Municipality.<\/li><li>If the girl child is married before the age of 18, she will have to forgo the annual scholarships and the interest accrued thereon. She will only be entitled to receive the post-birth grant of Rs 500 and interest accrued on it.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2-Beti-Bachao-Beti-Padhao\"><\/span>2. <strong>Beti Bachao Beti Padhao<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is also one of the central government schemes for a girl child introduced to focus on wellbeing. Initially, this central government scheme was targeted at districts with low sex ratios, that is, fewer female children compared to their counterparts. Now, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign applies to other parts of the country. The scheme does not entail direct cash transfer but aims to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Improve the child sex ratio.<\/li><li>Prevent gender-biased and sex-selective elimination.<\/li><li>Ensure the survival of the girl child and her protection.<\/li><li>Encourage the education and participation of the girl child.<\/li><li>Achieve gender equality and women empowerment.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The scheme has three components:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><strong>Advocacy and media campaigns:<\/strong> National awareness campaigns involving a media approach are launched to educate parents. These campaigns also focused on destigmatising the birth of girl children, ensuring their birth, growth, and education are without discrimination.<\/li><li><strong>Interventions in gender-critical districts: <\/strong>Incentives designed to improve the Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and sex ratio at birth in 640 identified gender-critical districts.\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>A financial incentive-linked scheme:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.tickertape.in\/5-investments-for-childrens-future\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY)<\/a>, a small deposit-saving scheme, was launched to facilitate parents to save for their girl children. It focuses on increasing their enrollment in prestigious technical and engineering colleges across India.
