India\u2019s total installed generation capacity is 382 GW. 80% of energy demand is still being met by coal, oil, and solid biomass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Renewable energy forms around 25% (95 GW) of total power generation capacity in India of which 40% is Solar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are witnessing a visible impact of <strong>solar energy<\/strong> in the Indian energy sector. This will largely be dominated by solar power with 300 GW capacity and 140 GW of wind power capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Solar power is set for explosive growth in India &#8211; <\/strong>As things stand, solar accounts for less than 4% of India\u2019s electricity generation, and coal close to 70%. The objective of the policy is to provide a framework for the promotion of large grid-connected wind-solar PV hybrid systems for the efficient utilisation of transmission infrastructure and land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also aims to reduce renewable power generation variability and achieve better grid stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/K0NXtdHi0_pO-JW6GKcwJNowrlr8apC1w2TQ3keGPAlHuyZfPJo1GKY5ji_14mMYDPxgT3VfmCkB9TK5cgq6NPyJJlZmAV4oo9qSaN3i7iQ6X5gByErTfdpYQMXQ943AXUEInmE\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why-Hybrid\"><\/span><strong>Why Hybrid?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the complementary intermittent nature of wind and solar, power production can be levelled out throughout the day with a Solar-Wind Hybrid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Indias-monthly-Wind-Solar-and-Hybrid-generation-profile\"><\/span><strong>India\u2019s monthly Wind, Solar, and Hybrid generation profile<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/zqNa_0QLw7tjjJL2qB2X4kYe-J2cALNDJVQJBtP2ESRUJP9-wK-sNRbfByP54GCFiDy-ihz04T4z7WpKM4zLUn6qpG-5PFTHLDUcXPX8wbXGad0dEAFVnmxkK0N3gEQokrw28w8\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India\u2019s policy for bio-fuels &#8211;<\/strong> The Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP) seeks&nbsp;to achieve a blending of Ethanol with motor spirit with a view to reducing pollution, conserving foreign exchange and increasing value addition in the sugar industry enabling them to clear cane price arrears of farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current ethanol production capacity in India is around 400 cr. litres p.a. with the ethanol blending at 6.5%. For 20% ethanol blending 900-1000 cr. litres of new capacity needs to build out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India\u2019s net import of petroleum was 185 MMT at a cost of US $ 551 bn. in 2020-21. Most of the petroleum products are used in transportation.
